Belltown furniture stores closing

You may have noticed the "It's Gotta Go" furniture store on Western Avenue has closed, and now Urban Interiors on 1st Ave. will soon close as well, says the Seattle Times. Both stores are owned by the same family, as well as Continental Furniture and Thomasville on 1st Ave., which will stay open.

New bank coming to Belltown

Non-profit, environmentally aware bank, ShoreBank Pacific has announced that it will open a new center in Belltown.

The new 1,926 square-foot banking center will replace ShoreBank Pacific's temporary offices in Georgetown.

"We envision our new banking center as a networking hub for people and businesses that have interest in sustainability and are looking to define their approach." says senior vice president and north Washington regional manager Ad Duer.

The new bank is scheduled to open in Belltown this summer.

I have often found myself walking past the Wexley School For Girls located on 5th Ave. between Bell and Blanchard wondering the same as Big Blog contributor K. Murakami: "Are there really little Belltowner girls in there learning the art of being a lady?" It seemed an odd place for a school in the heart of an area known for wild clubbers and crack smokers.

To my surprise, Wexley School For Girls is actually a marketing firm, and apparently a very "non-traditional" one you could say. Inside of their office is a 9-foot-tall wood carving of a bear by one desk, an outhouse with a mannequin bride at another, and a giant chicken with an axe at another.

"The reason why we didn't call it instead something like Cohen and McAllister is because when they have a meeting with the Wexley School for Girls, they'll know the fun people are coming."
