The Belltown Messenger recently posted a behind the scenes look at a day in the life of a Belltown crack addict. "We're writing this article to put a human face on addiction. We're sick of the stereotypes presented in the media about crackheads. It's like whenever someone sees a black person, especially a street person, they are always derided as a crackhead." Reads the article.
I don't know guys. Yes, drug addicts are people too. No, we can't expect to not see them in Belltown alleys getting a fix once in a while when they've been here long before the condos. But, this "Yay for crackheads boo for Belltown yuppies" campaign that the Messenger seems to be on is getting old. With various comments and articles throughout the past few months that express more concern for drug addict rights over the concerns of residents I get annoyed. It becomes evident in this article how easy it is to access drugs in the neighborhood, which concerns me.
This is a question of neighbors who desire a peaceful living environment. All we want is to walk down the street without a whiff of crack smoke blown in our faces, or children's faces for that matter, or some wigged out drug addict who can't score a fix so he starts throwing things or yells at you when you won't give him a dollar. Am I right?

you are full of shit. there is far more damage done to belltown by the drunks going to the yuppie bars than there ever was crackheads hanging out in the alleys.
You live in the CITY!! We have lived in Belltown for years and I have never had someone blow crack in my face, offer it to me or had any issues. The drunk frat boys on summer weekends are more of an issue for residents. The city isn't for everyone. If you want quiet neighborhoods with the same old people doing the same old things.... move to the Eastside.
I love how people make generalaztions like "The Drunk frat boys on summer wekends are more of an issue for residents." Really? Becuase I'm a resident here and I don't mind them. What I do mind is walking to get coffee in the morning and seeing a woman drop her pants in the middle of the sidewalk and shitting all over it. Another thing I mind is having to not cross the street on 2nd and Bell because there is a group of drug dealers congregating and fighting outside the mini mart. How the Belltown Messenger seems to think that drug trade in our neighborhood is a good thing is beyond me, because with "Crackheads" come drug dealers, and drug dealers have never done any good for a neighborhood that I know of. I'm well aware that I live in the City, I have for 3 years and love it, but promoting the degradation of the neighborhood with drugs is irresponsible and plain ignorant.
So after reading the article, I don't see how anyone could get a "yay for crackheads, boo for belltown yuppies" message from it. My apologies to the Messenger and boo to Erica and Belltowner for putting a spin on something that isn't there. Maybe you should stick to writing your own content instead of just copying stuff from the PI and other blogs. I thought for once, you had an original thought.
You must understand that this "yay for crackheads boo for yuppies" campaign which I refer to isn't drawn solely from this article. There have been a string of comments and articles from the Messenger which have expressed more concern for drug addicts than those of concerned Belltowners.
Ya I'm not a big fan of getting verbally abused by some crackhead who uses the alley door as a hideout as they shootup.
Claiming that crackheads somehow promote diversity is beyond retarded.
