New Mars Hill Church embraced by Belltown

Buh-bye Tabella, and hello to the new Mars Hill Church. "It's amazing how God can change things," said Sarah Rosenberger, a Lynnwood mother who attended Mars Hill's service last Sunday.

An estimated 400 eager people crowded in to attend the first service at Mars Hill Church's new downtown campus last weekend. Seated on what was once one of Seattle's most notorious dancefloors, attendees witnessed Tabella's extreme makeover.

The go-go dancer cage is now a coat hanger. The condom dispenser is now a diaper changing station. The disco ball is now a rotating Jesus statue. (Ok, that last part is not really true.)

It seems like most Belltowners are really happy about the change in the neighborhood. "We're very glad we have a church there," says Belltowner Sam Alramahi. Instead of gunshots, we're hearing rock bands sing about how Jesus laid down His life for others. Instead of rowdy crowds in search of a brawl we're seeing tame churchgoers in search of inner peace.

Everclear will be playing a benefit concert at Mars Hill for New Horizons street youth center on April 5. For more information go here.
